Realtor Closing Gifts: What to Give a Buyer at Closing
Closing day is long. The buyer signs a stack of papers, gets the keys and drives to a house with nothing in it. A realtor closing gift marks the end of that day. It does not need to be big. It needs to be useful in an empty house, and easy to carry out of the office. For a printable way to plan this, see our new home binder on Etsy.
Check these before you buy
- Your brokerage. Some offices set a limit on gift value, and some want gifts recorded. Ask your broker.
- Your taxes. In the US, the IRS limits the deduction for a business gift to $25 per person each year. You can spend more. Ask your accountant how to record it.
- The household. Note who lives there, whether they have pets, and whether they drink alcohol. You have had weeks to learn this. Use it.
What makes a good closing gift
- It is about their home. A gift covered in your logo is an advert. Put your name on the card.
- It works on day one. They have no furniture yet. A mug, a doormat or a meal gets used that week. For a coffee gift, see this realtor closing gift mug on Etsy.
- It lasts. Flowers are gone in a week. Something they use each morning stays in the house for years.
- It travels. If you hand it over at the closing table, it has to fit in a bag.

Closing gifts from our shop
These six are new home designs from our Etsy shop. Prices are the item prices on the day we wrote this. Shipping is extra.
For the first coffee
The Closing Gift Mug, New Home Key Handoff Cup is an 11 oz ceramic mug drawn for closing day. One hand passes a house key to another in front of a blue door, with wildflowers around them. It has no words on it, so it suits any buyer.
Design art
The second mug, the Closing Day Coffee Mug, says "Closing Day" above a cup of coffee, a peony and a key on a paper tag. It is an 11 oz white ceramic mug with the art on both sides. Add a bag of coffee from a local roaster and the gift is ready.

For the front door
A doormat is a good closing gift for a first time buyer, because they rarely own one. The Botanical House Key Doormat is an 18 by 30 inch polyester mat. An antique key lies across a small house shape, with rosemary, olive branches and white flowers around it. There are no words on it.
For the sofa
Decor is a risk when you do not know their taste. A small pattern on a cream background is the safer choice. The Keys And Clover Pillow is a 16 by 16 inch spun polyester pillow with antique keys, clover and small flowers scattered across it.
For the tree
An ornament comes out of the box once a year, and it reminds them of the year they bought the house. The Botanical House Key Ornament is a round ceramic ornament that shows an antique key wrapped in green vines. It is printed on both sides and has no words or date, so it works for a closing in any month.
For a buyer who closes this fall, the First Christmas New Home Ornament 2026 carries the year. It shows a blue front door with a wreath and reads "First Christmas in Our New Home 2026". The year is printed and cannot be changed, so give it only to buyers who will be in the house by December.
How our products are made
We design the artwork. A print partner prints each item after it is ordered and ships it to the address on the order. Nothing sits in a warehouse, so allow time for printing as well as delivery. Etsy shows the delivery estimate and the shipping cost at checkout.
The ornaments come from a different print partner than the mugs. Shipping on them costs more, so check the total before you order.
We do not offer personalization on these items. We cannot add a name, an address or your logo. Props shown in the photos are not included.
What to skip
- Anything with the address or a name on it, unless you have checked the spelling twice.
- Wine or spirits, unless you know they drink.
- Strong scents. Candles and diffusers are a matter of taste.
- Large decor. They have not picked paint colors yet.
- Gifts that are mostly your logo. They end up in a drawer.
When to give it
- At the closing table. Pick something small. A mug or an ornament fits in a bag with the paperwork. For a holiday closing, see our first Christmas in new home guide.
- On moving day. Send a doormat or a pillow to the new address once they have the keys. A box on the step of an empty house can sit for days.
- A month later. A short visit with a small gift gives you a reason to ask how the house is treating them.
Whichever you choose, write the card by hand. Two lines about their search mean more than the gift.
