Host Gifts Under $30 for Thanksgiving and Christmas
Someone is cooking for you this season. They planned the menu, cleaned the house and found enough chairs. If you are planning the meal yourself, see our dinner party planner guide. A small gift says thank you. Good host gifts under $30 are easy to find, for a host or a hostess, and none of them need a trip to a big store.
What makes a good host gift
- It asks nothing of the host tonight. They are busy. Do not bring anything that needs a vase, an oven or a space on the table.
- It is small. The kitchen counter is full. Pick something that fits in one hand.
- It is for later. The best gifts get used the next morning, when the guests have gone.
- It is not part of the meal. If you were asked to bring a dish, the dish is your job. The gift is separate.
Food and drink that work
- A bag of good coffee or a box of tea
- A jar of local honey or jam
- A tin of cocoa
- A box of chocolates for after the guests leave
- A loaf of bread for breakfast the next day
- A bottle of wine, if you know they drink
Tell the host the food is for them, so they do not feel they have to serve it.

Host gifts from our shop
Each of these six items is priced under $30. Shipping is extra. On the day we wrote this, the coasters and mugs also came in under $30 with US shipping. The ornament did not, and we say so below.
Our shop began with new home gifts, so a few of these designs include a house key. They suit any host, and they suit a host in a new home most of all.
For the table
A coaster gets used the same night. For the table, see this housewarming gift coaster on Etsy. This one is 3.75 inches square with a cork back. It looks like a folk art tile: a small cottage with tulips around it, in deep green and dusty rose. The colors fit a Christmas table without being a Christmas design, so it stays out all year.
The next coaster is the same size, also with a cork back. It shows small things a home collects: a painted bowl, a box of matches, a framed flower, a glass vase and a key.
This is the lowest priced item on the list. It is a single ceramic coaster, 3.94 inches square, with a cork back that does not slip. The picture is an open window at sunrise, with a plant and a key on the sill. It works for hot or cold drinks.
For the morning after
The day after a big dinner, the host wants a quiet coffee. This 11 oz white ceramic mug shows a small round table, a blue chair and a trailing plant. It has no words on it. Pair it with a bag of coffee.
Design art
This mug is for a couple who host together. Two floral mugs of coffee sit side by side, with a key and wildflowers, and the steam makes the shape of a house. It is also 11 oz white ceramic.

For the tree
An ornament is the classic gift for a Christmas hostess. This round ceramic ornament shows a small cottage among pine trees, inside a wreath of winter branches and berries. It has no words and no year, so it can go on the tree every December.
One thing to know: the ornament comes from a different print partner, and shipping on it costs more than on the mugs and coasters. With US shipping the total is over $30. Check it at checkout before you order.
How our products are made
We design the artwork. A print partner prints each item after it is ordered and ships it to the buyer. Nothing sits in a warehouse, so allow time for printing as well as delivery. Etsy shows the delivery estimate and the shipping cost at checkout.
Order early for a holiday. The weeks before Thanksgiving and Christmas are the busiest of the year for printing and post. We do not offer personalization on these items, and props shown in the photos are not included.
What to skip
- Cut flowers with no vase. The host has to stop and find one.
- A dish nobody asked for. The menu is planned, and the oven is full.
- Strong scents. A scented candle near the table competes with the food.
- Anything large. They have to store it after you leave.
- Alcohol, unless you know they drink.
When to hand it over
- At the door. Say it is for later, and put it somewhere out of the way.
- By mail, before the day. Send it a week ahead with a note. It arrives when the host still has time to enjoy it.
- Afterward. A thank you card in the week after the party is always right, with or without a gift.
